Mir 2001.3.12

In this day, Mir flew at a height of about 250 kilometers, and it happened to pass over Toyama. We found it in northwest sky and crossed sky to southeast direction passing near the zenith. It was as bright as Jupiter.

This is a picture of around starting to rise. You may hardly recognize the appearance.

This is a picture of starting to rise more. Now, it is easy to recognize the shape of Mir.

This is a picture of starting to rise more. It is possible to distinguish "Docking module" and "Crystal" on the right side. On the top of Mir, the unmanned cargo boat "Progress M" can be seen.

This is a picture that rose to the zenith. You can find solar battery panels on "Kvant2" clearly. Mir was illuminated only the half of it , so the upper side in the image could not be seen (you can only see the inner part of green rectangle in the right picture).

Unfortunately, our observatory's doom cannot follow objects passing zenith with such fast speed like Mir, so we could not track after the zenith. If we had had better doom, you could enjoy more images viewing from other directions with other illumination.

Movies

We made two types of movie files : MPEG and Real Media. The image quality of MPEG is better than that of Real Media, but the file size is very large. Depending on your network circumstances, select proper type of movies.

MPEG

scene 1 (1204KB) scene 2 (1054KB)

Real Media

scene 1 (113KB) scene 2 (109KB)
